Assessments

Understanding what’s going on is often the first step towards getting the right support. Most insurance plans require an assessment before mental health treatment can begin, but the assessment serves a much greater purpose than meeting an insurance requirement. At Fernbrook Family Center, our assessments gather information about current concerns, mental health history, medical history, family relationships, strengths, and daily functioning. The goal is to better understand what someone is experiencing, determine whether a mental health diagnosis is appropriate, and recommend services or supports that best meet their needs.

Diagnostic Assessments (DA)

A Diagnostic Assessment (DA) is a general mental health assessment for children, adolescents, and adults ages 6 and older.

Early Childhood Diagnostic Assessments (Birth-5)

Fernbrook offers specialized Diagnostic Assessments for children from birth through age 5. These assessments are completed by DC:0-5 trained therapists.

Autism Assessments

Fernbrook provides comprehensive autism assessments to explore one’s experiences related to communication, social interactions, and sensory needs. These assessments are completed by staff trained in the MIGDAS-2, a standardized, strengths-based, and neurodiversity-affirming tool and the ADOS, a standardized, play- and conversation-based assessment.

Note: Fernbrook’s autism assessments are not psychological evaluations.

Our waiting list for Autism Assessments is currently closed.

Assessments are also available for those who do not have or do not want to use insurance.
